Got a pool net, some chlorine, and six-pack abs? Well you can, then, be a pool guy! Not exactly. We get a lot of phone calls asking if we can teach homeowners how to maintain their own pool. And while the answer is “yes”, we’d be foolish not to offer our own services.
The fact is you’re going to spend about $35-$40 each month taking care of your pool yourself. That’s simply the cost of chemicals. Not included in that figure are trips to the pool supply store, as well as the time to actually, you know, clean the pool!
Depending on where you live, weekly pool service can be as inexpensive as $75 with the average cost here in Boca Raton, FL $85. That’s a conservative difference of just $30-$40/month to outsoure a tedious and time-involved task.
If you are in the market for a pool service, there are 2 main things you should know prior to giving anyone the business.
1. Are the certified/licensed/insured?
All swimming pool cleaning companies need to be registered either/or state, county, city and receive their business occupational license. This is the bare minimum to do business in the area. It is not a professional license. Furthermore, pool technicians must be certified by an accredited institution like the NSPF.
2. Do they have references?
You’re hiring someone who is at your property most likely when you’re at work. They have access to your backyard almost carte blanche. They also are responsible for maintaining safe swimming environment for your family and loved ones. Do you think it might be a good idea to ask for references? Any prideful pool technician will gladly share happy customers as it only benefits them, so make sure to ask!
